Lots going on in the shop these past weeks and little time to post! The desk is getting close, but needed to add a door in the desktop for cable management and storage. Used soss hinges to keep the profile low, and cut in an access port for cables. I

Complicated glue up for sure. Butt joints, mitered joints, and face joints. After all the mock ups, prefinishing the interiors, cutting dominoes I just had to pull the trigger and get this thing together. It took over an hour and used 22 clamps and 1

I did a science while the Dr was out of town this weekend. Red oak is not the first wood I am going to choose to use, but it is rich in tannins. And when combined with iron acetate it turns black. I did use some strong black tea to increase the tanni

I did need to employ the mechanical planer to flatten and dimension close to 70 board feet to make panels, the hand plane is great for delicate work, but not sure how long this would have taken by hand. I might still be on the first board . . . #woo

The slight bevel on the top matches the recess in the shadow line on the sides. Doors for the credenza, mixing walnut heartwood with it’s sapwood. It’s crazy how one tree can have so much color variation. The doors unfortunately are not perfect squares so now just gotta figure out how the hell to glue this up properl
